After years of largely dominating the foldable market, Samsung will finally have a worthy competitor. While Samsung isn’t the only company making foldables, many of those brands aren’t available in the US. That’s why the iPhone Fold will be the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s main competition.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 may finally be forced to fix its battery problem

Rumor mill never sleeps, and according to a new report, the iPhone Fold could ship with a 5,500mAh battery. The claim comes from Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, who adds that the final capacity could end up being even larger. If this turns out to be true, it means one thing: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will need to step up its battery game.

Since 2021, Samsung has largely standardized the battery size across the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. While the company has adopted more efficient processors and made its foldables lighter over the years, that still doesn’t justify sticking with the same battery capacity for so long. In fact, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 remains the model with the largest battery in the series at 4,500mAh.

To be fair, Samsung has taken some bolder steps in recent months. It launched the Galaxy Z TriFold (now available in the US) which packs a 5,600mAh battery. That’s the largest battery Samsung has ever put into a foldable, and it raises expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. At this point, Samsung will need to increase capacity or at least match the iPhone Fold if it wants to stay competitive.

Otherwise, it risks ending up in an awkward position, losing out on a key advantage to a company that’s only just entering the foldable space. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is still months away from its debut, and we’ll likely hear more rumors in the meantime. In related, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and others also appeared today in IMEI database.
