Yesterday, Verizon faced a major outage that caused frustration among subscribers. Many users were left without calls or mobile data for most of the day. The good news is Verizon has confirmed it will offer a $20 account credit to customers affected by the outage.

Here’s how you can claim your $20 credit from Verizon after massive outage

But you’ll need to claim it, since Verizon won’t automatically apply the credit to your account. Eligible customers can redeem it once they receive a text message from the company confirming the credit’s available. After getting the message, users must open the myVerizon app and follow the steps shown there to apply the $20 to their account.

In a public statement, the company acknowledged that the credit doesn’t fully make up for the disruption, but described it as a way to recognize the inconvenience caused to customers. Verizon also said the amount should cover multiple days of service for most plans. However, that will vary depending on individual billing cycles and plan pricing.

After customer backlash over the app-only requirement, Verizon clarified that users can also redeem the credit by contacting customer support by phone, chat, or online support, in addition to using the app. However, customers will still need to wait until Verizon flags their account as eligible before the credit can be applied.

Verizon hasn’t shared technical details about what caused the failure. So far, there’s no public explanation of whether it was related to core network issues, routing problems, or backend system failures. Verizon says business customers will be contacted separately about compensation. So if you’re a business customer, wait for the company to reach out with the next steps.
