One UI 8.5’s Now Brief Can Remind You to Call Your Family

One UI 8.5 continues to show how Samsung’s Galaxy AI features are evolving beyond flashy gimmicks into features that feel genuinely useful. That shift became clear in a small but meaningful moment recently, when Now Brief gently reminded a user to contact their family after noticing a prolonged gap in communication. These features may debut with the Galaxy S26 series in a few months.

On the surface, this might sound like a simple notification. But in practice, it feels different from the usual reminders we’re used to. This wasn’t a calendar alert or a manually set task. Instead, it was a contextual nudge, delivered at the right time, based on usage patterns and behavior. And that’s what makes it stand out.
“Say hello to your family,” Now Brief nudged the user. “You haven’t contacted this person lately,” the message added, displaying the contact’s details along with information on when they contacted them last time. In an age where smartphones are often blamed for weakening personal relationships, this feature from Samsung feels refreshingly thoughtful.
In fact, Now Brief is clearly designed to act as a subtle life assistant, not just a productivity tool. Instead of pushing more screen time, it occasionally does the opposite: reminding you to pause, reflect, and reconnect. People usually don’t intentionally ignore family; they just get busy. A gentle prompt like this can make a real difference.
Samsung is currently testing One UI 8.5 for a wide range of devices, even rolling out public beta programs for the Galaxy S25 series in some regions. The stable version will debut with the Galaxy S26 lineup in late February. This Now Brief upgrade is expected to arrive with the stable update, along with enhanced Photo Assist and Bixby.
