Rivian is closing out the year with a software update that focuses on convenience as much as performance. Along with new hands-free driving support and extra drive modes, the company is adding a phone-based digital key that lets owners ditch the physical key. Rivian confirms many Samsung Galaxy phones are supported from day one.

You can now store your Rivian car’s digital key in Samsung Wallet

Version 2025.46 is rolling out to second-gen Rivian R1 models, including the R1S and R1T. The big addition is Rivian Digital Key, which follows the Car Connectivity Consortium standard and works with Samsung Wallet, so your phone can double as your car key.

You can unlock the vehicle by holding your phone near the door. Once inside, the phone acts as the key fob, letting you start the car without pressing anything. Rivian also lets owners share digital access, which comes in handy for families or shared vehicles.

On Samsung phones, the digital key works through Samsung Wallet and requires the Rivian app version 3.8.0 or newer. The phone needs NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy and must be running Android 15 with One UI 7.0 or later. If the phone does not support Ultra-Wideband, it has to be placed on the wireless charging pad so the car can verify it before driving.
