The Korean media recently reported that Samsung has started mass production of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but has left behind the other two models. It looks like the company still hasn’t finalized everything for the base S26 and S26+. Despite some reports suggesting an unchanged camera setup from the S25 series, Samsung is reportedly testing new sensors, at least for the Plus.

Samsung is testing different camera setups for the Galaxy S26+

According to fresh findings shared by @erenylmaz075, Samsung is actively testing multiple camera setups for the Galaxy S26+. While the base model appears to be locked into a familiar configuration, the Plus may introduce some new sensors. If true, this would be a rare camera hardware distinction between the two models.

This comes after a recent report suggested that Samsung has canceled camera upgrades for the Galaxy S26 in order to keep pricing unchanged. Importantly, that report focused entirely on the base model and made no mention of the Plus. This further fuels speculations that Samsung’s next mid-tier flagship may not carry the same cameras as the entry-level model.

As things stand, Samsung is actively testing a new 50MP ISOCELL S5KGNG main camera and 12MP ISOCELL S5K3LD telephoto lens for the Galaxy S26+. If these sensors make it to the final product, the device could offer improvements in detail, low-light performance, and overall image processing. The ultrawide and selfie cameras may remain unchanged, matching those used on the Galaxy S25 and S25+.

With 2026 approaching, Samsung is running against time to finalize the specs for the Galaxy S26 and S26+ and start their mass production. The devices should debut alongside the S26 Ultra in late February, followed by a market release in March. This timeline is already a month behind the Galaxy S25 series, and Samsung wouldn’t want to further delay its next flagship launch.
