Samsung’s memory business is gaining solid momentum as demand for high-speed graphics memory continues to grow. The company has begun sampling faster versions of its 24 Gb (3 GB) GDDR7 memory, including 32 Gbps and 36 Gbps modules. These modules offer higher bandwidth and improved performance for powerful graphics cards.

Samsung accelerates graphics memory with new 3 GB GDDR7 modules

Samsung has recently updated the status of its GDDR7 memory production on its official website (via Techpowerup). The company mentioned that the 32 Gbps and 36 Gbps modules are currently in the sampling phase, packaged in 266 FBGA. In addition, it confirmed that 28 Gbps 3 GB modules are in mass production, meaning they are ready for deployment in consumer graphics cards.

The 3 GB modules allow GPU makers to scale total VRAM efficiently without needing a large number of chips. For example, Nvidia’s RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPU already uses 3 GB GDDR7 modules. Likewise, refreshed RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell features 72 GB of GDDR7 ECC memory (using 24 modules of 3 GB each). This shows the importance of high-capacity memory for demanding workloads such as 3D rendering.

Samsung’s 32 and 36 Gbps modules may make their way into professional and high-end graphics cards, while the 28 Gbps modules could power the upcoming Nvidia RTX 50 SUPER refresh. The rumored SKU includes the RTX 5070 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5080 SUPER. All of which may feature greatly increased VRAM (up to 50% more than their non-SUPER counterparts).

With the latest GDDR7, Samsung has pushed the boundaries of GDDR with PAM3, a high-speed signaling technology. It can be used in graphics cards, game consoles, automotive, HPC, and AI/ML. The company says GDDR7 is 30% faster and 20% more power-efficient than previous memory. With new packaging materials and an optimized circuit design, it offers a 70% reduction in heat. These improvements make GDDR7 a noteworthy memory solution for the AI era.
