Samsung may receive additional OLED panel orders from Apple for the iPhone 17 lineup. The reason is that BOE is facing technical issues that prevent it from meeting its supply commitments to the Cupertino giant. This shows Samsung Display’s solid position as a reliable supplier in the global OLED market.

Apple may turn to Samsung as BOE struggles with iPhone panels

In September 2025, Apple launched four new iPhone models, including iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The models feature LTPO OLED panels that improve efficiency and make display performance smoother. Apple is sourcing these panels from multiple suppliers as per its production needs.

Samsung Display currently supplies panels for all new iPhone models, while LG Display delivers panels for three models (except Pro). Meanwhile, BOE had been expected to supply panels for the iPhone 17 Pro model in China. In early Q3 2025, the Chinese display maker got approval from Apple to begin mass production. Furthermore, it planned to supply up to 10 million OLED panels.

However, BOE has recently run into product reliability issues despite continuous research and development. According to a report by ZDNET Korea, these problems remain unresolved as of mid-November. This makes it unlikely that BOE will meet its supply targets for the iPhone 17 series this year.

As a result, Samsung Display may increase its OLED shipments to Apple to cover the shortfall. The company may raise its supply from 80 million units to 90 million units. This will allow Apple to maintain its production and shipment schedules for all new iPhone models despite BOE’s difficulties. It comes at a time when Samsung and BOE have finally reached an agreement stage after years of feud.

In addition to supplying OLED panels, Samsung also reportedly provides the RAM for all the latest iPhone models. That means the success of iPhone 17 sales could also benefit the Korean firm, not only through its display business but also through memory sales.
