Now That the Galaxy S20 FE Has Hit End-of-Life, These Are The Best Upgrades

November has arrived, and with it comes some disappointing news for Galaxy S20 FE users. Samsung has officially ended software update support for its first Fan Edition device, meaning it will no longer receive new features or security patches. As a result, it might be time to consider upgrading to a newer model that offers better performance, longer update support, and improved features.

To be frank, any option from Samsung’s current lineup would be a significant step up from the Galaxy S20 FE, especially considering the advancements made over the past five years. If your budget allows, the Galaxy A56 or Galaxy S25 FE would be the top upgrades. However, the Galaxy A36 is also an excellent option for those seeking solid performance at a lower price.

You could even look into the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is priced similarly to the first two, though we wouldn’t recommend it if battery life is your main concern. Keep in mind that only the Galaxy S25 FE supports wireless charging, while the other two do not.

Galaxy S25 FE

The first in the list of obviously the newest FE phone, which packs a punch. It sports a 6.7-inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, and runs on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip with up to 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The rear setup includes a 50MP wide, 8MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide lens, while the front has a 12MP selfie camera.

The 4,900mAh battery supports 45W fast charging, which is always nice to see. It ships with One UI 8 and comes with a promise of seven years of updates, taking it well into 2031 or 2032 — potentially up to One UI 15 based on Android 21. Right now, Samsung’s offering a double storage upgrade, and if you trade in your Galaxy S20 FE, the 256GB model drops to $449.99 on Samsung.

Galaxy A56

If you’re looking to save a few bucks, the Galaxy A56 is worth a look. It launched in most markets earlier this year but only recently made its way to the US. You’re getting the same 6.7-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1580 chip, along with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Galaxy A36

Another solid option to replace your Galaxy S20 FE is the Galaxy A36. It keeps the same 6.7-inch display with Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, but this time runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip. You get 6GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. On the back, it offers a 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro lens, with a 12MP selfie camera up front.

The Galaxy A36 packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging. Like the A56, it ships with One UI 7 and is expected to receive updates up to One UI 13, likely based on Android 19. Trade in your Galaxy S20 FE, and you can grab the 128GB version for $296.99 or the 256GB for $371.99 on Samsung.

So, which one’s the better deal? The Galaxy S25 FE easily stands out with its higher-end specs, longer support window, and overall value. But if you’re just looking for something more affordable without too many compromises, the A56 and A36 both make perfectly reasonable picks.
