Galaxy Z TriFold Might Not Disappoint You When It Comes to Thickness

After the standards set by the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s sleek design, you might wonder how sleek Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold, the Galaxy Z TriFold, really is. What’s the Galaxy Z TriFold’s thickness in numbers? Does it disappoint or impress even more? We’ve been asking the same questions after seeing the tri-foldable make its public debut yesterday in Korea at Expo Grand Park.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold thickness revealed in a new report
Before we get to the dimensions, you might want to take a look at what could debut soon. Which markets will see Samsung’s first tri-fold in the initial round is still under wraps. Some leaks have suggested lately that the US launch might be left out for now.

Now let’s get to the main part. How thin is the Galaxy Z TriFold? A report from Korea Economic Daily reveals its thickness. According to the report, Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold appears to be 4.2mm thick when unfolded, and 12mm to 15mm when closed. To put that into perspective, 4.2mm is the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Huawei is apparently the only other brand making tri-fold foldables at the moment. Its Mate XT Ultimate has a thickness of 4.8mm when opened and 12.8mm when closed, so Samsung seems to have a slight edge. The difference might be barely noticeable, but it still counts.
Moreover, the report mentions that the unfolded screen measures around 10 inches, according to observers. Those who saw the tri-fold in person say that the creasing is barely noticeable. For what it’s worth, no one was allowed to touch or hold the tri-fold yet, so it could feel even better once it’s in hand.
The device is said to go into commercial production as early as next month, which suggests that a debut before the year ends is still on track. Now for some bad news: the report mentions that it could initially launch only in Korea and China, and it may cost around 4 million won (~$2,783) for the 256GB. Well, that’s even more expensive than what the Samsung Galaxy XR is going for.
