One UI 8.5 May Let You Throttle Network Performance to Boost Battery Life

Samsung is still rolling out One UI 8, but we already know a fair amount about One UI 8.5. Rumored to be based on Android 16 QPR2, the new version may debut in early 2026 with several meaningful upgrades. One of the notable new additions could be a tool that throttles your phone’s network performance to boost battery life.
One UI 8.5 may bring a new way to save battery by limiting network performance
Strings of code discovered by Android Authority in a recent internal One UI 8.5 build suggest Samsung is developing a new feature called Network Battery Saver. The description reads: Save battery by limiting network performance when your phone isn’t likely to be used, such as when you’re sleeping.
This means the feature will intelligently restrict background network activity when your phone is idle to reduce unnecessary power consumption. To pull this off, Samsung is relying on Personal Data Intelligence (PDI) or Personal Data Engine, an on-device AI system already present on Galaxy phones and tablets.
It analyzes your device usage patterns to understand when and how you typically use your phone. The system then creates a knowledge graph of your behavior to make your experience more adaptive and efficient. Network Battery Saver uses this intelligence to determine when to apply network limits.
While the focus so far has been on subtle UI refinements, One UI 8.5 seems to be a deeper upgrade with meaningful under-the-hood intelligence. Alongside cosmetic polish, AI-driven features like Network Battery Saver and smarter privacy tools show Samsung’s intent to make the Galaxy experience more adaptive and power-efficient.
Samsung should debut One UI 8.5 alongside the Galaxy S26 series in January or February 2026, before gradually expanding it to other eligible Galaxy phones and tablets. Ahead of that, the company may launch beta programs for select models in late November.
