Galaxy S21, S20 & A52 5G Receive August Update in the US

Samsung’s August 2024 update is available for more Galaxy devices in the US. The latest security patch is rolling out to the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S20 series, and Galaxy A52 5G. All other flagships, foldables, and select mid-range models have already received this update stateside.

Samsung has been rolling out the August security patch to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets since early this month. The latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) has reached several dozen devices globally, including some budget models. The Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S20 series, and Galaxy A52 5G have also received it in some international markets. The US versions of these phones are now picking up the new update.

The August SMR for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra is available widely across the nation. The carrier-locked units are receiving the update with the firmware build number G99*USQUCGXGA, while that for the unlocked units is G99*U1UEUCGXGB. The official changelog says the devices are picking up some stability improvements alongside the latest security fixes. There aren’t any new features in tow.

It’s a similar story for the Galaxy S20 trio. The August update for Samsung’s 2020 flagships is rolling out widely to carrier-locked and unlocked units in the US with firmware versions G98*USQSAHXG1 and G98*U1UESAHXG1, respectively. These devices have already stopped receiving feature updates. The latest update is all about this month’s security patches. The August SMR contains 50 vulnerability patches, including two critical fixes.

These security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy A52 5G in the US. This mid-range phone is picking up the update on both carrier variants nationwide. The new build numbers are A526USQUEGXG4 (carrier-locked) and A526U1UEUEGXG5 (unlocked). Samsung is pushing some stability improvements to this device, but the “new features” column is blank.
