Google Brings Gemini AI Collaboration to Drive on Android and iOS

Google has added “collaborate with Gemini” tools to its Drive app, giving users new ways to interact with their files. You can summarize documents, retrieve quick facts about a project, ask questions about folders, and more. The company is rolling out an update that brings these capabilities to Drive users on both Android and iOS.
Google makes its Drive app smarter with Gemini collaboration tools
So far, “collaborate with Gemini” tools have been available only on the web version of Google Drive. With this update, Google brings this web experience to phones, letting users chat with Gemini within the Drive app. In its blog post, Google wrote, “This integration empowers Drive users of the mobile apps to seamlessly ask questions about their files and folders and receive conversational responses, mirroring the existing functionality available on Drive Web.”

For example, Gemini can summarize long documents or entire folders, allowing you to quickly get the main ideas. It can also discuss a topic by pulling details from one or more files in your Drive. Furthermore, it comes in handy if you just need a quick fact — you won’t need to find and read the relevant documents.
Speaking of how you can get started with Gemini in Drive, open the Google Drive app on your Android device and then click on Ask Gemini at the top right. At the bottom panel, you can choose one of the suggested prompts or type your own question. Note that Google does not save your conversations to Gemini Apps Activity.
The company began rollout on September 22, but it may take up to 15 days for these tools to reach every account. Note that personal free accounts won’t have access at this time. If you are a Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Google AI Pro for Education, or Google One AI Premium subscriber, you will be able to enjoy the Gemini collaboration tools in the Drive app.
