Google Home Tests New ‘Home Brief’ to Simplify Smart Home Alerts

Google appears to be preparing a major shift in how it handles smart home alerts inside the Google Home app. The latest evidence suggests that the company is working on a new feature called Home Brief. This may come alongside a broader rebrand of its Nest Aware subscription under the Google Home Premium name.
Google Home app is quietly testing a new Home Brief feature
Android Authority spotted the references to the Home Brief in Google Home app v4.0.53.2. In which, new strings and screens describe it as “Make every camera notification more helpful, and check your Home Brief at the end of the day.”

Instead of getting lots of separate alerts from your cameras or smart devices, you would see one simple update at the end of the day. This could include things like camera activity, lock usage, or other important events picked up by your connected devices.
The catch is that Home Brief will not be free. The app hints that you will need a Google Home Premium subscription to use it. The same goes for other upcoming tools like Gemini Live and Ask Home, which bring Google’s AI into smart home controls. Google also seems to be planning a free trial, though we don’t yet know how long it will last. Since Nest Aware often comes with a 30-day trial, that could be the case here too.
These changes suggest Google wants to make smart homes less overwhelming by using AI to cut down on constant alerts. Instead of being distracted by every little notification, you would get one clear summary. With the app itself getting a fresh update, it seems Google is preparing bigger improvements across its entire smart home ecosystem.
