It’s been quite some time since the Play Store began widely rolling out the option to download or update more than one app at a time. This feature is especially convenient when you have a bunch of apps waiting for updates. However, until now the limit has been just three apps simultaneously. A new update appears to lift that restriction, allowing you to update more than six apps at once.

Play Store’s new update limit makes multi-app installs less painful

In our testing, we found that the Play Store now allows up to six apps to update simultaneously, a noticeable improvement over the previous three-app limit. When we queued multiple updates, six apps began downloading and installing right away, while anything beyond that remained in the “Pending” state until one of the active updates finished. You can see this clearly in the screenshot below. (Tap to enlarge)

Play Store six app update at once

For everyday users, this small change can make a big difference. Most of us let updates pile up in the Play Store, and waiting while apps install one to three at a time is frustrating. With six apps updating in parallel, the process feels much faster and more efficient. That means less time watching a progress bar and more time with your apps ready to go.

While the option worked for my colleague Sumit Adhikari, I couldn’t get it running and still see the three-at-a-time cap. This change is likely server-side, so a wider rollout should arrive in the coming days. We’ll be sure to let you know once we get more details.
