Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Update May Bring AI-Powered Automatic Call Screening

Samsung may not complete rolling out its One UI 8 until November 2025, but the subsequent version is already making headlines. Over the past few days, we have revealed several exciting upgrades coming to Galaxy devices with One UI 8.5. To add to the mix, we now know that Samsung is preparing an automatic call screening feature to improve the spam protection system.
Samsung may let AI answer suspicious calls with One UI 8.5
While digging through an internal One UI 8.5 firmware, folks over at Android Authority uncovered code strings that point to a new call screening tool. This feature is capable of answering spam calls automatically and then displaying a transcript of the conversation on the screen. The description reads “Let an AI assistant answer calls and ask the caller who they are and why they’re calling. You can still answer or continue with Text call while AI assistant is answering the call. You can see the conversation without accepting the call.”
The publication also spotted a string that will let the AI assistant answer calls automatically, even in Do Not Disturb mode. This would allow Galaxy users to remain undisturbed while still receiving transcripts of suspicious calls. Another string points to a language-selection option, letting the user choose the language for automatic call screening. This suggests the company will make the feature available globally.
It is worth mentioning that Samsung already has a manual call-screening tool called Bixby Text Call. However, this feature allows users to tap a button during an incoming call and have Bixby answer on their behalf. After that, you can decide whether to pick up the call based on the caller’s intent. It works across both saved contacts and unknown numbers. Of course, this is still a handy feature, but AI-powered call screening will eliminate the need for user action.
That said, Samsung may still keep Bixby Text Call as an option for users who prefer a hands-on approach. We should learn more about the upcoming automatic call screening feature in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Samsung is rolling out its One UI 8 updates for several devices, including the Galaxy S25 series, S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.
