These Galaxy Devices are Eligible for Six or Seven Years of Updates

Samsung offers seven years of software updates to its flagship Galaxy phones and tablets, and six years to budget and mid-range A-series models, a commitment that puts it in a league of its own. With up to seven years of Android OS, One UI, and security updates, the Korean firm has set a new standard in the industry. It shows that longevity and user satisfaction are at the forefront of its strategy. This extended support is a game-changer for users who do not switch phones every few years.

Regular feature updates and security patches ensure the smooth functioning of their Galaxy phone for several years. However, the extended software support policy doesn’t apply to all Galaxy devices. Galaxy S, Z, and Tab S series models launched in 2024 and later are eligible for seven years of updates. Select Galaxy A series models launched in late 2024 and later will get six years of updates. Galaxy phones eligible for seven years of Android OS, One UI, and security updates

Samsung announced the new update policy during the Galaxy S24 launch in January 2024. It said all three Galaxy S24 models would receive Android OS, One UI, and security updates for seven years. Introduced with Android 14 onboard, the Galaxy S24 lineup will pick up new Android versions till Android 21, which should arrive sometime in 2030. During this time, the devices will receive new One UI feature updates alongside the Android goodies from Google.

Moreover, Samsung will regularly push security patches to plug various vulnerabilities, ensuring the safety of your data. While the company doesn’t offer this extended update policy to the Galaxy S23 or older models, it did bring its foldables under the same umbrella, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, and continued to promise the same support for newer flagships, including tablets. The Galaxy devices listed below are eligible for seven years of updates as of March 2026.

All subsequent Galaxy S series flagships, Galaxy Z series foldables, and Tab S series tablets should receive seven years of feature and security updates. Meanwhile, we now know that budget and mid-range Galaxy A models will receive updates for six years.

Last year, Samsung extended its update support period for budget and mid-range models, starting with the Galaxy A16 lineup. These phones are eligible for six major Android OS and One UI updates alongside six years of security patches.
