Dolby Vision 2 is Here — will Samsung Finally Support it on its TVs?

In recent years, Samsung has made significant advancements in its TV display technology, while also integrating AI features to improve picture quality. However, the company has yet to adopt Dolby Vision, a stunning HDR imaging technology, on its TVs. Now that Dolby has introduced its next-generation Dolby Vision 2, it will be interesting to see whether Samsung will support it or continue to use its own HDR10+ format.
Dolby Vision 2 unlocks the next-level TV viewing experience
With Dolby Vision 2, Dolby Laboratories has brought a groundbreaking evolution in picture quality innovation. The new technology uses a more powerful image engine, and content intelligence tools ensure content looks better than ever. Furthermore, AI capabilities intelligently adapt the picture to your device to deliver the best viewing experience.
Speaking of the new tools, Precision Black makes dark scenes clearer without compromising artistic intent. Likewise, Light Sense adjusts picture quality using ambient light detection and reference data from the content. Thanks to the Sports & Gaming Optimization feature, it can improve motion control and adjust white point during live sports and gaming.

Dolby Vision 2 also takes Dolby Vision beyond HDR with the world’s first creative-driven motion control tool. Dubbed Authentic Motion, it makes scenes look more cinematic without unwanted judder. The latest imaging technology will be available in two tiers: Dolby Vision 2 Max for the highest performing TVs and Dolby Vision 2 for mainstream TVs.
Hisense will be the first brand to launch Dolby Vision 2 TVs using MediaTek’s Pentonic 800 chip. However, it remains unclear whether Samsung will use this new technology in its future TVs. For years, the company has focused on its proprietary technology, HDR10+. Since Dolby Vision 2 features a more advanced image engine with AI optimization features, it might attract the Korean TV maker. We should learn about it in the coming months.
