The Galaxy Note Era is Over as Note 20 Support Comes to an End

It’s official: the Galaxy Note is now history. Samsung’s last Note smartphones, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, have reached the end of their software support cycle. With the August 2025 security update rolling out, these devices are no longer scheduled to receive any further updates. That means Note 20 users will need to consider upgrading if they want the latest features or continued protection against security vulnerabilities.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra debuted in August 2020 with Android 10. At the time, little did we know that they were going to be the last Note phones in Samsung’s lineup. The company discontinued the series next year, integrating the S Pen into the S Ultra model.

Over the past five years, Samsung rolled out three major Android OS upgrades and dozens of security patches to the Note 20 duo. Most recently, the devices picked up the August 2025 security update, which we expected to be the final one. Now, Samsung has confirmed the end of update support for the two Note phones. While the Korean firm could issue one more patch as a formality before closing the book, the official support window has ended.

For those who still swear by the Note, the natural successor is the Galaxy S Ultra series. The S21 Ultra introduced S Pen compatibility, and from the S22 Ultra onward, Samsung fully merged the Note’s defining features into the S line. Today, the Galaxy S25 Ultra carries the Note’s torch with an integrated S Pen. It is eligible for seven years of updates and is currently available for $1,049.

The Galaxy Note may be gone, but its spirit lives on. Five years after its launch, the Note 20 series officially bows out — closing a storied chapter in smartphone history.
