Galaxy S25 Edge Meets its First True Rival in iPhone 17 Air Next Month

The Galaxy S25 Edge has been basking in attention ever since launch, thanks to its ultra-thin design and flagship-grade hardware. At just 5.8mm, it’s one of the slimmest premium smartphones on the market. But Samsung’s bragging rights may not last much longer, as Apple enters the scene soon with its iPhone 17 Air.
iPhone 17 Air could soon eclipse Samsung’s ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge
Apple is preparing to launch a slim iPhone, rumored to debut as the iPhone 17 Air, in the coming weeks. If the leaks are accurate, the device could measure only 5.5mm thick. It undercuts the Samsung phone’s slender profile and sparks inevitable iPhone 17 Air vs. Galaxy S25 Edge comparisons. However, there’s more to the story.
Despite the thin build, the S25 Edge carries Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 12GB RAM, and a versatile camera setup with a 200MP primary shooter, making it a true flagship rather than just a design experiment. Samsung struck a nice balance between thinness and usability, though the battery life is a major concern.
The iPhone 17 Air, meanwhile, may leave a lot to be desired. Reports suggest that to shave off millimeters, Apple may have compromised on hardware features. The device is expected to carry just one rear camera and may even lack a bottom-firing speaker, relying instead on the top earpiece for audio. If true, this would make the iPhone 17 Air a showcase of Apple’s design prowess rather than a direct rival to the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Still, Apple’s ability to generate buzz around slim, minimalist devices means the Air could easily steal some of the Edge’s thunder. The Galaxy S25 Edge may offer more in terms of raw capability, but the Air’s slimmer build could be one of the talking points in the industry. Stay tuned for the official launch, likely on September 9 alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup.
