Samsung’s XR Headset Gets FCC Approval, US Launch Nearing

A few days ago, Samsung confirmed that it will debut its first XR headset (codenamed Project Moohan) before the end of 2025. The device has now obtained certification from the FCC in the US, suggesting it is nearing launch. This also means that the global launch should not be delayed and may happen just a few weeks after its debut in the home country, South Korea.
FCC certification hints Samsung’s XR headset may launch globally soon
Samsung has teamed up with Google and Qualcomm to develop its XR headset. The device will use Google’s Android XR platform and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. Since the Korean firm already teased its XR headset several times, many hoped it would unveil the device during the July Unpacked 2025 event. However, Samsung was not ready at the time, but it began clearing regulatory hurdles.
It already got approval from the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) with the model number SM-I610. And now, with the recent FCC certification in the US with the same model number (h/t @KeepUPwithOneUI), Samsung appears to be gearing up for a global market launch. A previous report suggested it could go on sale in Korea starting October 13, with the global market to follow later.
Unsurprisingly, the FCC listing didn’t reveal details about the headset but hinted that a global launch is imminent. An earlier report revealed that the device will feature Sony’s flagship OLEDoS display with an impressive pixel density of around 3800 PPI.
With its first XR headset, Samsung wants to see how the market responds to this kind of device. The company previously said that the real battleground is smart glasses, and Project Moohan is a first step in that direction. The headset will arrive as an ultra-premium device, likely with a price tag between $2,000 and $3,000. We will let you know when any new information is available — stay tuned.
