Samsung saw a major boost in smartphone shipments in the US during Q2 2025. It recorded 38% year-over-year growth in shipments, strengthening its second position in the region. This growth is the result of the strong demand for its mid-range Galaxy A-series and a large inventory scale-up ahead of potential tariffs.

Samsung shipped 8.3 million smartphones in the US in Q2 2025

According to data from market research firm Canalys, US smartphone shipments increased by 1% in Q2 2025. This time around, Samsung contributed greatly to this growth with its 8.3 million units shipped. The Korean firm shipped 6 million units around the same period last year. While Samsung remains in the second spot, big year-over-year growth suggests its growing competitiveness against the market leader and arch-rival, Apple.

The Cupertino giant suffered an 11% year-over-year drop. It shipped 13.3 million units in the quarter, down from 14.9 million units in Q2 2024. According to Canalys, this decline is the result of a correction from 25% growth in Q1 2025. Meanwhile, other brands — Motorola (third spot) and Google (fourth place) — also saw growth. The former shipped 3.2 million units with a 2% year-over-year boost, while the latter saw a 13% increase, shipping 0.8 million units.

As for the market share, Samsung secured 31% of the US smartphone market in Q2 2025, up from 23% in the same quarter last year. This brings the company closer to Apple, which achieved 49% market share. Both Motorola and Google succeeded in retaining their previous position —12% and 3% share, respectively.

Thanks to the increasing demand for Galaxy A-series devices, Samsung had to scale up its inventory stock in Q2. The Korean firm recently launched its latest premium mid-range phone, the Galaxy A56, in the US. It is now available for purchase with instant trade-in discounts of $100 or $150, depending on the Galaxy model.

Another possible reason for the increase in shipments for Samsung could be the uncertainty over US tariffs during that period. “Vendors continue to frontload devices and maintain high inventory levels to best cope with the risk of tariffs coming into play later in the year,” said Runar Bjorhovde, Senior Analyst at Canalys.
