If you pre-ordered a Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Flip 7, your new foldable may have a software update waiting for you out of the box. Samsung is already rolling out the first software update for the devices, both of which come preloaded with One UI 8 based on Android 16. The update brings the July 2025 security patch with no additional changes.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Flip 7 get their first update ahead of market release

Launched on July 9, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are set to hit store shelves this Friday, July 25, in most global markets. However, ahead of their market release, Samsung has rolled out an update for both models. The new firmware release for the foldable duo carriers carries firmware version AYG5. The Fold 7 gets the build number F966NKSS2AYG5, while it’s F766NKSS2AYG5 for the Flip 7.

As of this writing, the update seems limited to South Korea. However, Samsung should soon expand the rollout globally. Note that this update doesn’t introduce any new features to these foldables. Instead, it focuses on security enhancements, aligning the devices with other Galaxy models already running the latest July 2025 patch.

Screenshots shared by users with early access to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 confirm that both models support seamless updates. This Android feature minimises downtime during installation. Unlike previous devices, users won’t have to sit out during the entire installation process. Instead, the update installs in the background and completes with a quick reboot — a much more convenient experience for users.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are the first Samsung devices to launch with One UI 8, offering subtle but impactful changes to usability, design, and multitasking. This update introduces refined animations and transitions, enhanced AI features, smarter gallery tools, better app continuity, and more. Samsung is expected to roll out One UI 8 to other eligible devices starting in early August.
