Google Announces Android 16 Release, One UI 8 Stable Coming Next Month

It’s no secret that Google will release its next major version of Android, Android 16, this June. However, the exact date remained under wraps until now. The company has officially announced June 10 (today) as the release date for the stable version of Android 16 — the rollout could begin anytime now. While the final version will roll out for eligible Pixel devices initially, this paves the way for Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8, which will debut next month alongside the upcoming foldable lineup.
Google announces Android 16 stable release, One UI 8 on the way for Galaxy users
Historically, Google has released major Android OS updates in October alongside new Pixel smartphones. However, this year, the company has changed its schedule and is dropping Android 16 early. As announced on X, the new version goes official on Tuesday, June 10. Interestingly, this comes just as arch-rival Apple announced iOS 26, suggesting that Google aims to shift users’ attention to Android 16.

Unsurprisingly, Pixel users will be the first to taste the stable Android 16. The good news is that Samsung Galaxy users won’t have to wait much longer to experience the latest software. In fact, the Korean firm has already confirmed that One UI 8 (Android 16) will debut on Samsung’s newest foldables this summer and will gradually expand to more Galaxy devices.
While the release date of the upcoming Galaxy foldable lineup remains under wraps, rumors point to July 9 or July 16 as the potential dates. So, the launch of Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 would also mark the beginning of Samsung’s wider rollout of the new software. Samsung may start seeding the stable One UI 8 to the flagship Galaxy S25 lineup first. Based on past rollout patterns, other Galaxy users will have to wait for a few weeks to experience the latest update.
Meanwhile, Samsung has opened the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. If you are from the beta-eligible countries (Germany, South Korea, the UK, and the US), you can participate in the program through the Samsung Members app. We will let you know if more devices and countries are added to the beta program.
