Samsung is finally starting to use AI in a big way, by which we mean that the company plans to integrate AI in software development. It plans to integrate Cline AI, which will let developers write and edit code using plain language, so they don’t have to type everything out in programming syntax. Samsung says Cline AI will help teams work faster and fix problems more easily.

For now, Samsung is testing its Cline AI coding tool with employees in the Device eXperience (DX) division, according to Yonhap news agency (via IANS). For what it’s worth, the DX division handles smartphones, TVs, and home appliances. And you might know already the kind of innovations we see in these products. Thus, an AI assistant can help the team carry out things more efficiently.

Cline is open-source and can respond to plain-language commands such as “create a login function” or many of such tasks which would anyway have consumed time and lines of code writing. The team can use it to code, fix bugs, or run tests. There’s no shortage of coding assistants right now, but Samsung says that Cline can take on more complex tasks. What it means for us is that we’ll probably see faster bug fixes in the future.

Cline is part of a broader push by Samsung to bring more AI into the workplace. After a previous leak, the company paused the use of public AI tools such as ChatGPT. Since then, it’s shifted focus to building its in-house AI systems. But a recent report from last month suggested that Samsung has allowed the employees to use ChatGPT again, though with certain limitations. Coming back to in-house AI systems, Samsung has also developed Gauss. It’s a separate tool designed to support a wide range of employee tasks.

Additionally, Samsung has also created a dedicated AI Productivity Team within the DX division. It’s responsible for rolling out AI tools across the company and many more AI-related tasks. We’ll most likely hear more about these developments in the upcoming biannual strategy meetings later this month.
