Galaxy S24 Gets Mysterious 1GB Update as Users Await One UI 8 Beta

Samsung has rolled out a substantial new update for the Galaxy S24 series. Depending on the model, the latest firmware release weighs over 1GB, but comes with a vague changelog. It’s not the One UI 8 beta, nor a new security patch. The devices remain on the May 2025 release, leaving users wondering what’s actually changed behind the scenes.
Samsung says the second May update for the Galaxy S24 brings usability improvements
Currently rolling out in Europe, this is the second May update for the Galaxy S24 series. The official release notes say the update improves “the usability of device operations” and nothing more. That’s a departure from the typical language seen in standard security updates, which usually mention device protection or enhanced security.
The new build number (S92*BXXU4BYE7) hints at more than a simple security release, but the changelog doesn’t make it clear. The bootloader version also remains unchanged (4) — the previous build number was S92*BXXS4BYE3 (the fifth digit from the last indicates the bootloader version). However, the unusually large file size suggests deeper system changes, optimizations, or hidden groundwork for future features.
Maybe Samsung is preparing the Galaxy S24 lineup for One UI 8 beta. The beta update is currently available for the Galaxy S25 series in Germany, the UK, the US, and South Korea. Other models, including the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, may get beta programs in June or July.
As far as this Galaxy S24 update is concerned, it should expand beyond Europe in the coming days. Samsung may also soon release the June security patch for the 2024 flagships. Or maybe the company plans to bundle it with the One UI 8 beta update, we shall find out soon.
