Samsung’s Project Moohan headset is no secret. In fact, Samsung showcased it during the Galaxy Unpacked event in January, and we’ve seen plenty of pictures and videos of it since then. Even though it’s been teased on a couple of occasions, it largely remains a mystery. Well, now we finally know when Samsung’s Project Moohan headset officially launches.

Samsung’s Android XR headset, Project Moohan, will launch later this year

At Google’s I/O event, the tech giant revealed that Samsung will launch its Android XR headset, also known as Project Moohan, “later this year”. This confirms a flurry of rumors and speculation that had been circulating. And right before your eyes, you’ll see Gemini features in action, thanks to the growing partnership between Google and Samsung.

Google also announced that Samsung’s Project Moohan will be the first device to run on Android XR. Of course, it’s hard to pin down exactly when the launch will happen. “Later this year” can mean many things. Still, it gives us hope that we might see it in the fourth quarter. If things line up, Project Moohan could debut alongside Samsung’s FE devices, assuming those launch toward the end of Q3 or early Q4. That’s an educated guess, at best.

That said, there’s still little known about the device itself, other than the fact that it is the result of a joint effort between Google, Samsung, and Qualcomm. Qualcomm is expected to provide the chipset powering the headset, while Google is bringing its AI smarts to the table.

As for pricing, rumors suggest Samsung could set it somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000. That would place it firmly in the premium category, and yes, it’s pretty expensive, but still more affordable than Apple’s Vision Pro, which launched at $3,500. Of course, take all of this with a pinch of salt. We’ll know more by the end of the year, when Project Moohan is hopefully unveiled in all its glory.
