Google Meet Can Now Translate Your Voice As You Speak

Google is now adding real-time speech translation to Meet. Announced by CEO Sundar Pichai during the I/O keynote, the new feature will help people understand each other, even if they don’t speak the same language. The tool uses Google’s Gemini AI to translate what someone says during a Meet call into another language. The translation is spoken out loud and sounds like the original speaker, with a similar voice, tone, and emotion.

During the keynote, Google demonstrated the feature with a simple example: one person speaks English, the other speaks Spanish, and the AI translates each speaker’s words in real time so they can understand each other smoothly. In the demo, the translation kept up with the pace of the conversation and even matched the speaker’s tone and style, making it feel more natural.

Right now, the tool works only between English and Spanish. But Google says more languages are on the way, including Italian, German, and Portuguese. Until now, users had to rely on live captions in Meet to follow conversations in other languages, which meant reading instead of listening. This new voice translation makes it easier to stay focused and feel more engaged in the conversation.

The feature is now available to users on Google’s AI Pro and Ultra plans. It will also be tested with enterprise users later this year.
