Google Brings NotebookLM App Early on Android, Right Before I/O 2025

Just ahead of I/O 2025 on Tuesday, Google has quietly rolled out the NotebookLM app for Android. Originally set to launch tomorrow, it’s arrived a day early. Until now, the AI-powered tool was desktop-only, but you can now take it for a spin on phones and tablets.
NotebookLM app debuts early on Android devices
NotebookLM is like having a super-smart research buddy in your pocket. It helps break down long and complex documents into bite-sized summaries. You can also ask it questions, and it’ll give you answers with sources to back things up. Now that NotebookLM has landed on Android, all eyes are on iOS, which could have its own version tomorrow, right after I/O begins.

One of the coolest features is Audio Overviews. Instead of reading, you can just hit play and listen to an AI-generated podcast that sounds like a talk show. It’s a clever way to learn something new while you’re cooking, commuting, or just lying on the couch. Plus, it works offline and supports background playback, so it won’t bail on you when the signal drops.
Inside the app, you’ll find a clean home screen showing all your notebooks. You can filter them by recent, shared, or downloaded. Each notebook shows how many sources are added, the date, and even includes a play button for the Audio Overviews.
Additionally, you can upload PDFs, paste in links to websites or YouTube videos, or even share documents directly into the app using Android’s share button. Once uploaded, NotebookLM starts working its magic, summarizing, connecting ideas, and making it all easier to understand. There’s also a simple bottom menu for browsing sources, asking questions, and using something called Studio, a space to create content based on your research.
Hopefully, tomorrow during I/O, Google will discuss more about the NotebookLM app. Here’s how you can watch Google I/O 2025, and what’s coming.
