Looks Like Samsung Will Jump Straight from One UI 8.0 to 8.5

The One UI 7 rollout is underway, and it won’t take Samsung long to roll out the Android 16-based One UI 8. With the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 coming up, Samsung will push the new One UI 8. This confirms earlier rumors that Samsung plans to release One UI 8 early to make up for the annoying delays with One UI 7. Looks like One UI 8 has already leaked clues about what version comes next. On top, it follows a report saying the same.

One UI 8.5 will follow after One UI 8

Samsung apps often hide secret menus for testing features behind the scenes, and sometimes they spill the beans on future updates. In a screenshot shared by Alfatürk on X, we finally get a peek at what comes after One UI 8. Well, it’s not One UI 8.1 or 8.1.1. Instead, we spot references to One UI 8.5, which looks like the next update after One UI 8.

Samsung might be changing how it handles software updates. In the past, we’d see minor updates like x.1 or x.1.1 sneak in between major releases. But this time, it’s going straight from One UI 7 to 8, then jumping to 8.5. That could mean Samsung is tossing those smaller “dot” updates out the window, at least for now, maybe because of how long it took to get One UI 7 out the door.

That’s nothing new. If you remember, Samsung used to roll out .5 updates regularly, but that trend fell by the wayside in recent releases. So if they are bringing back the .5 updates with One UI 8.5, we are in for a quiet but interesting shift.

Now, when can we expect One UI 8.5 to land? Since Samsung’s upcoming foldables will ship with One UI 8 out of the box, the Galaxy S26 series will likely debut running One UI 8.5. That will happen early next year. Fingers crossed it brings some noticeable changes.
