How to Watch Google I/O 2025 and What’s Likely to Be Announced

Here we go again. Google’s annual developer conference, I/O 2025, kicks off Tuesday (May 20). As usual, the tech giant will take the stage to unveil major announcements. AI will be front and center, but there’s more on the agenda. Here’s how to watch Google I/O 2025 and what to expect from the show.
Here’s what to expect during Google I/O 2025
As in recent years, Google’s main focus at I/O 2025 will be on Gemini, which continues to grow more powerful. The company may unveil a more advanced version called Gemini Ultra, along with new subscription tiers, Premium Plus and Premium Pro. Expect deeper Gemini integration across Gmail, Chrome, Search, and Workspace.
Other AI projects may also take the spotlight. Project Astra focuses on real-time multimodal understanding, while Project Mariner aims to help AI navigate and act on the web. Google may also highlight education tools like LearnLM and updates to NotebookLM, possibly including a new video summarization feature. That said, there will be a bunch of more such announcements.
Although Android 16 was already previewed during a separate livestream event last week, more updates may be shared at I/O. But one of the most exciting things to watch for is news about Samsung and Google’s upcoming XR headset. Codenamed Project Moohan, the mixed reality device is being developed as a serious rival to Apple’s top-dollar Vision Pro. We’ll hear more about it during the event. It could be the biggest surprise of the event.
