The word on the street is that One UI 8.0 could launch sooner than expected. Yesterday, Google confirmed the news, subtly hinting at it. Even before Android 16 rolls out, we’ve managed to get One UI 8.0 running on one of our devices, and there are a few changes inside.
One UI 8.0 makes Battery Protection modes much clearer now
Mind you, what we’re running is a pre-beta or alpha build, so many things will change as the beta rolls out. However, the One UI 8.0 build does reveal a few things. One small yet impactful change in the One UI 8.0 update is that Samsung has made the Battery Protection modes’ descriptions much clearer. They’re now more straightforward and easier to understand, compared to One UI 7. This comes from Tarun Vats, and we can confirm that the change is noticeable.
For starters, there are two modes in Battery Protection: Basic and Maximum. Yes, the Adaptive Protection feature is included in the Basic mode. Speaking of which, it learns from your routine and stops charging at 80% while you’re sleeping, then continues charging to 100% just before you wake up. This helps to slow down battery aging.
Samsung explains, “Sleep time is estimated based on your phone usage patterns. It can take some time to make an accurate estimation. If irregular sleep patterns make it difficult to predict your wake-up time, Basic protection may be used temporarily.”
Meanwhile, the Maximum mode allows you to set a specific charging limit for your phone. You get to choose when you want your phone to stop charging. While the description mentions 80%, you can select from 80%, 85%, 90%, or even 95%.
That said, the next One UI 8 update may not be as significant as the One UI 7 update, but it will still bring a host of improvements. You can expect changes to Samsung DeX, third-party app integration for Live Notifications, and much more. There’s a strong possibility that One UI 8 could debut publicly in July, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
