Samsung’s One UI 8 update is drawing close, with a beta program expected later this month. Early leaks have revealed a lot about this upcoming update, including upgraded Secure Folder. The feature now uses Android’s Private Space API for enhanced security. Additionally, Samsung appears to be developing a Private Album within Gallery. It may let you quickly hide sensitive photos and videos without moving them to Secure Folder.

First spotted by X user @DalgleishGX, Private Album appears to be a built-in feature of the stock Gallery app in One UI 8. Unlike Secure Folder, which duplicates apps in an isolated environment to safely store your files, Private Album would work within the existing Gallery app. It likely creates a hidden folder — hopefully, protected by a PIN or password, or biometrics — where you can keep your sensitive photos and videos.
It’s a lighter and more integrated solution for users who want privacy without the complexity of Secure Folder. Galaxy users have been requesting this feature for years, and Samsung may finally introduce it with One UI 8. Of course, Secure Folder is the better choice to store sensitive files, as it creates an isolated environment and is more difficult to breach. But the new Private Album is still a handy addition.
It’s unclear if Samsung has built Private Album using the same Private Space API as Secure Folder or if it’s built on a different technology. More details should be available in the coming weeks. Galaxy users have also been requesting a built-in App Lock feature. Rumors suggested it might arrive with One UI 7, but not to be.
