Earlier this year, Samsung confirmed that it will bring an Antioxidant Index feature for the Samsung Health app in the second half of 2025. While the Korean firm has yet to share additional details, we now have a better idea of how this feature will work on Galaxy Watches. It looks like Samsung will introduce it with the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series.
Galaxy Watch’s Antioxidant Index feature will measure beta carotene levels through your skin
The Antioxidant Index feature will allow Galaxy Watch users to track their beta carotene levels. A recent APK teardown of One UI 8 Watch’s Samsung Health app by Android Authority reveals how this feature will measure the overall antioxidant capacity of a diet. The measurement will be taken non-invasively through the skin — you just have to place your thumb on the back of the watch for at least 10 seconds.
You will be able to check measurement progress on your phone via the Samsung Health app. As of now, it is unclear whether your current Galaxy Watches are capable of measuring beta carotene through your skin. The publication expects that this feature might work only on the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series and newer models.
The Antioxidant Index feature will display your daily average and tell whether your levels are “adequate” or “low”. A string within the APK also adds a warning phrase that reads: “Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you’re concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional.”
As mentioned above, this feature will arrive in the second half of the year. However, Samsung has not revealed yet which Galaxy phones and watches will support it. Maybe it will come with the One UI 8 Watch and remain exclusive to the Galaxy Watch 8. As the launch of the next generation of Galaxy Watch is approaching, more details should emerge in the coming weeks.
