Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is poised to set new standards in foldable smartphone design with an ultra-thin body. While some rumors suggested a folded thickness of 8.2mm, that was seemingly an inaccurate figure. A reliable industry insider recently revealed that the device will measure approximately 9mm when folded and under 4mm when unfolded.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be the thinnest Samsung foldable yet

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a folded thickness of 8.9mm. When unfolded, the device will measure just 3.9mm. This suggests that the bumpers around the display to protect it from scratches will be substantially thick. Note that the reported “unfolded” thickness doesn’t include these bumpers.

Interestingly, the device was originally said to be 9.5mm thick, but some sources later claimed a slimmer design measuring just 8.2mm. It looks like Samsung tested multiple prototypes for the Galaxy Z Fold 7.  The company aims to make its phones slimmer and lighter going forward. For a quick comparison, the Fold 6 is 5.6mm thick when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded.

Samsung has reportedly removed the traditional S Pen digitizer layer, allowing for a sleeker profile without compromising functionality. Alongside a slimmer build, the upcoming foldable is getting taller and wider, too. As a result, it features an expansive 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer screen for an immersive viewing experience.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite “for Galaxy” processor, ensuring robust performance. Camera upgrades are in the pipeline too, with a 200MP main sensor leading the array, complemented by a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s design advancements position it as a formidable contender in the foldable market. Its combination of slim form factor, larger displays, and enhanced performance features makes it a noteworthy option for consumers seeking cutting-edge mobile technology. Samsung should launch it alongside the Flip 7 in early July 2025.
