Samsung Begins Galaxy S25 FE Firmware Testing, But Full Launch Still Months Away

by | May 2, 2025 | Galaxy S, News

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series will take a few more months before all models are available in the wild. The three phones — Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra — were unveiled at the January Unpacked event. In the coming days, Samsung may lift the curtain on the Galaxy S25 Edge. And a few months after that, we might finally see the Galaxy S25 FE. Fan Editions have their own loyal following, and they usually offer impressive performance without breaking the bank.

Samsung kicks off firmware testing for Galaxy S25 FE

Now, Samsung seems to be moving ahead with firmware development for the Galaxy S25 FE, as reported by SamMobile. According to the outlet, the US variant of the Galaxy S25 FE (SM-S731U) has started firmware testing, with build number S731USQU0AYDH. The last few letters suggest it’s from April, which means Samsung is making quick progress on the S25 FE’s software.

We still don’t know exactly when the Galaxy S25 FE will launch. But if we had to guess, it’ll likely arrive sometime in late Q3 or early Q4 of 2025. There’s a good chance it’ll ship with Android 16-based One UI 8.0, especially since the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to come with it. Releasing it with One UI 7 just wouldn’t make sense at that point.

As for specs, early reports point to the Exynos 2400e chip powering the Galaxy S25 FE — the same one found in the Galaxy S24 FE from 2024. It might also end up in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It’s a decent processor, but some fans are still hoping for a step up. And honestly, that’s not too much to ask.
