At Samsung’s new AI-powered pop-up restaurant, Sem Igual, no two dishes are the same — because they’re all invented by a smartphone. Diners sit down, pick out a few ingredients, snap a photo with a Galaxy S25, and let the phone’s built-in AI whip up a custom recipe. A real chef cooks it. You eat it. That’s it.
You need to be in Portugal to see if Galaxy AI can write good recipes or not
The restaurant’s name means “one of a kind” or “unique” in Portuguese, and it lives up to it, via EuroWeekly. There’s no menu. Instead, you choose one protein, one carb, three vegetables, and a sauce from a list of 25 ingredients. Galaxy AI takes that combo and instantly generates a recipe on the spot. Then it goes straight to the kitchen, where Chef João Dourado turns the AI’s idea into something edible.
It’s part tech demo, part food experiment. Samsung is using Sem Igual to show off what Galaxy AI can do beyond camera tricks and translation tools. Here, it’s being put to work in the most everyday (and most delicious) way — helping people figure out what to make for dinner.
The experience is free. But it’s only running for two days in each city, Lisbon on May 8–9 and Porto on May 16–17. You’ll need to book in advance, though, since space is limited. The Lisbon location is set in Belém, a tourist-friendly area by the river, and the Porto version takes place at the Social Club.
Samsung hasn’t said whether Sem Igual will travel beyond Portugal, but if you’re into gadgets, food, or just want to say you ate a meal invented by your phone, it might be worth checking out. Just don’t expect to order the same thing as your friend — or anyone else. We’d want Samsung to expand this fun project to a bunch of more places. So that everyone can try this out.
