Samsung Will Enable VoLTE by Default on Galaxy Devices with One UI 7

Samsung is making voice calls clearer and more reliable on its Galaxy phones. Working with the GSMA, Samsung is now turning on Voice over LTE (VoLTE) by default for all Galaxy phones and tablets that run Android 15-based One UI 7.

Samsung, GSMA collaborate to enable VoLTE by default on Galaxy devices

Until now, VoLTE had to be turned on manually on many Galaxy devices even though most phones from the past few years support it. Take for example, the latest Galaxy S25 series also supports it. With this update, Samsung wants to make high-quality voice calls easier for everyone. That comes at a time when more carriers around the world shut down legacy 2G and 3G networks.

VoLTE lets calls go over 4G and 5G networks, which means better sound quality, less delay, and you can use data and talk at the same time. It also helps with things like emergency calls and using your phone while traveling abroad

To roll this out worldwide, Samsung is teaming up with GSMA’s Network Settings Exchange (NSX) and testing services. These tools let mobile carriers share network settings with phone makers. That’s how devices can be set up to work smoothly with local networks. If a carrier’s settings aren’t available, Samsung will use GSMA’s default Profile #4 to keep things working.

“Our collaboration with GSMA has strengthened Samsung’s VoLTE compatibility, enabling more stable and seamless voice services across networks and regions,” said Samsung Electronics UK’s Justin Jun. “We’re excited to keep advancing connectivity so users can count on an exceptional mobile experience, wherever life takes them”.

“The GSMA welcomes Samsung’s pioneering efforts in enhancing call services. We have invested significant effort into preparing the industry for VoLTE readiness, so this collaboration with Samsung is a significant step forward,” said GSMA’s General Manager, Sianne Ryder.

Samsung sells millions of Galaxy devices every year, so it’s making sure its tests match GSMA’s VoLTE standards. This will help make the rollout smoother across networks and countries. With Android 15 and One UI 7, VoLTE will be on by default for all supported Galaxy devices.
