We know that Samsung is developing its first tri-fold smartphone, purportedly called the Galaxy G Fold. Earlier this year, the Korean firm teased the smartphone during the Unpacked event. But when it comes to the launch window, rumors point to either by the end of 2025 or early next year. Now it looks like Samsung has dropped a big hint about its potential launch window.
Samsung recently released its earnings report for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025. The company sees growth in Q1, with an operating profit of 6.7 trillion won. Shortly after revealing the report, the company also hosted the earnings call to share its future strategy with stakeholders. It hinted at the tri-fold release during this call.
Samsung hints at an innovative foldable device coming this year
During its earnings call, Samsung outlined several details about its foldable device lineup. But what caught our eyes was a specific phrase that reads “Well, we’ve continued to lead the foldable market through our innovation. And this year, with more innovation on the foldable form factor, we will improve the competitiveness of our products even further, enabling more customers to experience the benefits of foldable.”
Samsung clearly says that this year it will introduce an innovative foldable form factor device. This suggests the Korean firm is indeed planning to launch its tri-fold device later this year. A reference to “form factor innovation” wouldn’t make sense unless there’s something truly new, like a tri-fold device. The company won’t call it form factor innovation for the next iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip.
Samsung also said, “With the fold, we will offer and optimize a large screen AI experience”, which further hints at the large screen tri-fold device. Samsung’s tri-fold phone will reportedly feature a massive 9.9-inch display, which is about 2 inches larger than that of the Z Fold SE. This display will offer users the best viewing experience.
Meanwhile, Samsung is planning to introduce a bunch of new AI features, mainly for the foldable lineup. It aims to deliver differentiated AI user experiences across its upcoming foldable devices. The firm is currently preparing for the next Unpacked event, which could take place in New York in early July. It may launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and an affordable Z Flip FE at the event. As for the tri-fold device, there’s little chance, though it may reveal some details about its launch window.
