In recent years, India has become an attractive manufacturing hub for many tech giants, including Samsung. Samsung notably has two major manufacturing hubs in the country, one in Noida and another in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur. These factories play a vital role in making products for the Indian market and beyond.
Samsung plans to invest INR 1,000 crore to expand operations at TN facility
Samsung’s Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu manufactures products like refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions. As the demand for these products increases, Samsung has decided to invest INR 1,000 crore ($110-120 million) to expand its TN factory. The investment will help the company produce more products to meet the growing needs of customers in India and other countries. This expansion will also create 100 new jobs, confirmed state minister.
“Samsung to make an additional investment of Rs. 1000 crore in existing facility in Sriperumbudur, creating 100 more jobs, reinforcing their faith in the labour force of Tamil Nadu,” Industries minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. TRB Rajaa wrote on X.
Recently, the Tamil Nadu plant faced some labor issues, with workers protesting and going on strike over suspensions. However, despite these challenges, Samsung’s new investment shows the company’s commitment to continuing its operations in the region.
Samsung also works with local companies like Dixon Technologies to help with manufacturing. This makes it easier to increase production at the plant. Additionally, Samsung benefits from India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, a government program that supports companies by providing financial help for setting up or expanding factories in India. Samsung is already eligible for about INR 1,000 crore from this scheme.
With the recent pause on US tariffs on products made in Vietnam, India’s position becomes even stronger. Samsung’s decision to expand its operations here is good news for India. It could attract more global companies to shift their production to the country.
