Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone might not be limited to just Korea and China after all. While earlier reports suggested a staggered launch with a later release in global markets, there’s now a stronger indication of a wider rollout. A telecom operator in French Polynesia recently listed the device among those that support eSIM on its network, hinting that the tri-fold could be heading to international markets.
Samsung tri-fold may see a global launch
The Korean tech conglomerate has two new folding phones in the pipeline. Alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, the company is readying an affordable model, potentially called the Galaxy Z Flip Xe (or FE). The other one is this tri-fold, which could bear the marketing name Galaxy G Fold, based on early rumors. Meanwhile, Samsung appears to have canceled a successor to last year’s first-gen Galaxy Z Fold SE.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 may go official in early July, with the launch event likely taking place in New York, USA. However, there is uncertainty around the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip Xe/FE and Galaxy G Fold. These two could arrive sometime later, possibly around September or October.
As we wait for confirmation, a telecom company has listed all of these upcoming Samsung foldables on its website. While the other three have the full marketing names, the tri-fold appeared with its codename (Q7M). This likely means the rumored “Galaxy G Fold” branding isn’t official yet, and also that the Samsung tri-fold will see a global release. Things should get clearer in the coming months.
Samsung has been steadily losing its grip on the foldable market as the competition rises. It now hopes to regain its foothold with an expanded portfolio. The Galaxy Z Flip Xe/FE could help it bring foldables to the masses, while the tri-fold will open up a whole new category that most other players haven’t explored.
