Samsung took longer than expected to deliver the first major One UI upgrade to the Galaxy S24 series. Well over a year after their launch, the Android 15-based One UI 7 update is finally rolling out to the 2024 flagships. Galaxy S25 users may be in for a much shorter wait, though. One UI 8, based on Android 16, looks set for a much quicker release, possibly arriving within the next few months. Meanwhile, a leak gives us an early sneak peek.
Leaked One UI 8 build for the Galaxy S25 reveals a quiet upgrade
One UI 8 leaks have gotten more frequent in recent weeks, hinting at its nearing launch. Rumors suggest Samsung will ship the new version with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July. We already have a fair idea of what it brings to the table: not much, really. It’s shaping up to be a quiet upgrade with no groundbreaking new additions. You cannot say the same for One UI 7, arguably the biggest update ever from Samsung.
That said, there are a few things of note. Earlier leaks have revealed updated Quick Share (an Android 16 change), Log video and Now Brief support for more devices, additional Galaxy Labs tools, and some cosmetic upgrades. We now know that One UI 8 will also simplify Galaxy Buds pairing. SamMobile discovered this enhancement in an internal build for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
According to the report, One UI 8 drops the automatic launch of the Galaxy Wearable app when pairing Galaxy Buds via Bluetooth. You can swiftly pair your new earbuds without the Wearable app unnecessarily bugging you. This change streamlines the process — the app isn’t necessary for pairing. We hope there are more such meaningful upgrades that refine the One UI experience, building on the massive One UI 7 update.
So far, One UI 8 appears to focus on foundational changes rather than flashy new features, but Samsung may be holding back some updates and surprises for the final release in a few months. We will keep you posted.
