Amid uncertainty on the US reciprocal tariff, some good opportunities are coming for Samsung. While the Trump administration has exempted smartphones from import tariffs, Apple doesn’t want to take a risk. It plans to ramp up production of iPhones and iPads, stocking up the inventory ahead of time. As a result, Samsung Display will greatly benefit as it is a key supplier of Apple products.
Samsung set to benefit as Apple increases iPhone and iPad production
According to a report from the Korean outlet Chosun, Apple has increased its production volume of iPhones in Q2 2025. Initially, it targeted 41 million units, but now it targets 45 million units, which is an increase of about 15% over the same period last year. As for iPads, the company has increased production volume from 11.5 million units to 13 million units, which is about a 24% increase over the same period last year.
“The models being produced in the second quarter are products already launched last year. With the release of new products like the iPhone 17 in the second half of the year, overall production is expected to increase, and if we can also break free from tariff pressures, it could act as a boon,” an industry insider told the publication.
Although China is Apple’s major production hub, the report adds that its production volume in India may also significantly increase to diversify production bases due to tariff uncertainties. Being one of the key display suppliers for Apple, Samsung now sees it as a great opportunity. More than 40% of Samsung Display’s revenue comes from Apple.
More opportunities are arising for Samsung Display
In addition to that, Samsung Display has another piece of good news — it recently cracked a new deal with Apple. The firm will be the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s foldable iPhone. This time around, Apple seems to be going all in on Samsung — usually, the company orders displays from multiple suppliers.
Due to increasing competition from Chinese makers, Samsung’s share of the foldable OLED panel space has declined. And now, as the big opportunities are arising, Samsung Display should get back on track in the coming years. Time will tell if the increased production volume of Apple products and the new deal for foldable iPhone displays help boost the company’s overall business.
