One UI 8 Will Expand Now Brief, Log Video and Gallery Labs Tools

Samsung has quietly begun work on One UI 8, its next major software update based on Android 16. In fact, the update might already be nearing its launch, as rumors hint at a July release. The company may be able to bring One UI 8 early because it may not be as transformative as One UI 7. However, if leaks are accurate, there are some meaningful new features and upgrades in store for Galaxy users.

One UI 8 leaks continue, more features revealed

Thanks to early glimpses of a development build and fresh leaks, we now have a solid picture of what One UI 8 will bring to the table. From expanded feature support to refined design elements and smarter AI-powered tools, Samsung seems focused on polishing the One UI experience rather than reinventing it, which it did with One UI 7.

As we reported yesterday, One UI 8 will bring Now Brief to more Galaxy devices, delivering contextual updates and summaries at a glance. Samsung launched this feature with the Galaxy S25 series but decided not to ship it to older models with One UI 7. Log video recording, another feature that made its debut with the Galaxy S25, will expand to additional models with One UI 8. The Galaxy S24 series did get this feature with One UI 7.

Additionally, Quick Share will offer a more intuitive interface by separating actions into Send and Receive sections, improving usability and control over file sharing. The quick settings panel may also receive a subtle facelift, with additional shading around toggles to improve visibility and contrast. Apps like Gallery that use pop-up menus will now feature encircled menu options for a refined look.

Big upgrades coming to Gallery via Gallery Labs

One UI 8 will also bring significant improvements to Samsung’s Gallery app, specifically through an updated Gallery Labs, the hidden menu for experimental features. A new AI Zoom function uses artificial intelligence to enhance image clarity when zooming into small or low-res photos. Mirror Screen Mode in Viewer allows users to adjust how images appear on screen, possibly improving presentation and editing workflows.

Leaks also show a new “Show Full Address in Details” toggle within Gallery Labs. It might refer to the complete location where a photo was taken, which can help organize memories or travel logs. As mentioned above, Gallery Labs is a hidden menu. To access it, open the Gallery app > tap Menu > Settings > About Gallery > tap the version number 7–10 times until it says “Gallery Labs enabled.” You’ll then find it at the bottom of the Settings screen.

While still unconfirmed, rumors and past leaks hint at other enhancements in the pipeline for One UI 8, including Galaxy AI upgrades, refined Samsung DeX controls, improved multitasking experience, and more. Samsung may introduce the new version in July, shipping it out of the box on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Older models could get the update a couple of months later.
