Samsung’s next budget-friendly earbuds might show up with a surprise name. Instead of calling them Galaxy Buds FE 2, new info suggests they’ll be called Galaxy Buds Core. This name popped up in a recent FCC filing for the model SM-R410 (via @DalgieshGX), and it lines up with a global trademark Samsung filed back in January.
Samsung could rename the Galaxy Buds FE 2 as Buds Core
The rumors about the upcoming budget earbuds aren’t new. We’ve previously heard they’d be coming soon. Just today, they also passed India’s BIS certification, suggesting the release is imminent. Now, reports indicate that Samsung may launch them as Buds Core (instead of Galaxy Buds FE 2), which could mean a rename is happening. Or, perhaps an entirely new product line is in the works. Here’s another interesting detail.
One interesting detail from the trademark filing is that it lists 12 “designated” countries. That’s could be big hint these earbuds could be aimed at those regions and might not launch everywhere. So folks in the US or European region might not see them in stores, at least not right away. It may be too early to make assumptions, but undeniably, it looks like that.
It looks like Samsung is going back to basics with the Buds Core — possibly cutting out fancy extras like active noise canceling to keep the price down. If they play their cards right, these could be a hit for people who just want solid sound and long battery life without spending a ton. Given that Samsung’s affordable range is quite popular in (most of) these regions, so that may be the point.
There’s still no word on when they’ll launch or what the final specs will be, but it’s clear Samsung is rethinking its lineup. Whether the Buds Core will replace the Buds FE or live alongside them, time will tell.
