Samsung reportedly plans to begin mass production of its next-gen foldables, which include the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and an all-new Flip FE, next month. The upcoming foldables are generating a lot of buzz not in the tech town, not just for the hardware upgrades, but also for a possible surprise under the hood: the debut of Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chipset. The unannounced 3nm chip could power both Flip models.
Exynos 2500 may finally see the light of day
Samsung is reportedly conducting final tests to determine if it can use the Exynos 2500 processor in its upcoming Flip phones. Built on the company’s advanced 3nm process, developed by its System LSI Division, and fabricated by the Foundry Division, this chip was originally intended for the Galaxy S25. However, it failed to make it into the flagship due to performance issues.
The Korean firm is now making a renewed push to deploy it in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, hoping to prove the chip’s capabilities in a high-profile device. According to an insider report, Samsung recently sent two Flip 7 units for network testing, and both feature the Exynos 2500. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, meanwhile, should run the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which powers the Galaxy S25 series.
If the Exynos 2500 passes final performance and power efficiency tests, the Flip 7 could become the first Samsung foldable powered by an in-house processor. Samsung may also consider using it in the Galaxy Z Flip FE, depending on the production volume and other factors. If not, the Fan Edition “affordable” foldable could use last year’s Exynos 2400 or its underclocked version, the Exynos 2400e.
A Galaxy S25-inspired Coral Red color option for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip FE
Samsung plans to sell the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in four colors, with an initial production volume of about 160,000 units. For the Flip lineup, the company plans to make around 410,000 units — 240,000 for the Flip 7 and 170,000 for the Flip FE. These two models could come in a new Coral Red color, inspired by the Galaxy S25. As the rumored July launch approaches, more details should emerge about these foldables soon.
