Alongside the Galaxy S20 flagships, a few midrange Samsung smartphones reached their end of life this month. The Galaxy A32, A52, and A72 will no longer receive updates from the company. Users of these devices should consider upgrading to a newer model soon.
Samsung’s Galaxy A32, A52, and A72 are done getting updates
Starting last year, Samsung offers seven years of OS and security updates to its flagship models and six years to midrange devices. However, older smartphones aren’t covered under this policy. The Galaxy S20 series, for example, was eligible for three major Android OS updates and up to five years of security patches. The official support period ended this month.
Likewise, Samsung had promised security updates for up to four years for the Galaxy A32, A52, and A72, all of which arrived in the early months of 2021. As of April 2025, the promised support period has elapsed. The company has not stopped providing new security patches to these midrange smartphones.
Note that the enterprise versions of the Galaxy A52, as well as the Galaxy A52s, are still eligible for quarterly security patches. Samsung may update these business models for at least another year before pulling the plug. Neither will get new feature updates, though. Those stopped coming a long ago.
If you are using any of these midrange Samsung smartphones, it’s high time you upgrade to a newer model. Not only do you get access to the latest features, but new phones also offer stronger security measures and receive regular updates for years to come. As mentioned above, recent models are eligible for six years of updates.
Samsung currently sells the Galaxy A36 for $399, the Galaxy A26 for $299, and the Galaxy A16 for $199. All three models are 5G-ready and compatible with all major wireless carriers in the US.
