Samsung will introduce a new AI feature to protect Galaxy users from spam. It is allegedly developing an AI-powered spam filter to block malicious messages. However, this tool could only be available for Korean Galaxy devices, at least in the beginning. Samsung could expand it to other markets later.

Samsung’s AI-powered spam filter is coming first to the Galaxy S25 series

According to a report from Korean outlet Etnews, Samsung will first roll out its AI-powered spam filter to the latest Galaxy S25 series with a software update. Later, the One UI 7 update will bring this feature to the older Galaxy models as well. Samsung has already confirmed that One UI 7 will roll out widely starting April 7.

Samsung teamed up with the Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency to develop this feature. This collaboration is part of the Korean government’s ‘Comprehensive Measures to Prevent Illegal Spam’ initiative announced in November 2024. It aims to prevent several scams arising from text messages, such as illegal loans, adult content, and gambling.

As its name suggests, the AI-powered spam filter feature will use AI to automatically detect and block messages that have any suspected malicious content. It can detect and flag spam messages using a database of known malicious sender numbers and links, as well as their content.

“Samsung Electronics’ introduction of this function has further strengthened illegal spam blocking, along with the illegal spam blocking that mobile carriers have been doing so far,” said Shin Young-gyu, director of the Broadcasting and Communications User Policy Bureau. “We will continue to work closely together to create an environment where the public can feel safe from illegal spam, phishing, and smishing.”

Samsung introduced a similar feature called Message Guard with the Galaxy S23 series in 2023. It can automatically remove any potential threat hiding in image files before they can harm you. Now, with the AI-powered spam filter feature, Samsung aims to help users avoid losing money or becoming victims of identity theft. It remains to be seen if the company will roll out a similar tool outside Korea.
