The excitement surrounding Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone may have been premature. Early reports suggested that the company would unveil its highly anticipated dual-hinged foldable alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 at its next Unpacked event in July. However, a trusted industry insider now claims otherwise, hinting at a later launch.
Samsung’s tri-fold Galaxy G Fold may not launch at the next Unpacked
Initial rumors pointed to Samsung fully unveiling the tri-fold phone, allegedly called the Galaxy G Fold, at its July Unpacked event, where it would share the spotlight with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip FE. While the latter three may remain part of that event, the G Fold may be delayed. According to @MaxJmb, a reliable source with a solid track record, the tri-fold phone will be introduced at a later date.
While the tipster didn’t specify a timeline, they clearly stated that the G Fold “won’t launch alongside [the] Fold 7 and Flip 7.” Samsung might tease the product at the upcoming Unpacked, like how it teased the Galaxy S25 Edge at the January Unpacked. A full-fledged launch may follow a few months later.
It’s worth noting that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is shaping up to be an incredibly slim foldable. Leaks suggest it will be just 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.5mm when folded. This essentially means there may not be a Fold SE this year. Samsung could launch the tri-fold in its place around October. This is just a speculation, though. More details should emerge in the coming months.
The G Fold should be a larger version of the Fold 7. It should feature a similar design language, including a super slim profile. Samsung may introduce a new digitizer-free S Pen for foldables this year. It remains to be seen if both the G Fold and Fold 7 support it or if Samsung will keep it reclusive to the Fold 7.
