Samsung is expected to expand its foldable lineup this year, introducing an affordable Flip model called the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Recent leaks have shed some light on its specs, revealing a balance between cost efficiency and high-end features. We now have more information about the new foldable.
Galaxy Z Flip FE is an affordable foldable with premium features
The Galaxy Z Flip FE may have a lot of similarities with last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6. In fact, it looks like a rebranded Flip 6 with some hardware changes. The device allegedly features the same Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) and hinge mechanism as last year’s flagship. It sports a flat frame made of Armor Aluminum, with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus protection against drops and scratches.
The device will also include water sealing, adding an extra layer of durability. However, the exact IP rating is not known. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, so expect the same on the upcoming FE model. Samsung may also keep the primary rear camera unchanged, offering a 50MP sensor with dual-pixel PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilization).
The similarities don’t end there, though. Speakers also reportedly carry over unchanged, and so does the display. We are talking about a 120Hz panel with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. It might be a 6.7-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screen with an FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2640 pixels). The Galaxy Z Flip FE may also offer Wi-Fi 6E and 25W wired charging, the same as the Flip 6.
So what exactly has changed? Well, reports suggest Samsung will ship the FE model with an Exynos processor instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. It could be the Exynos 2500 or its underclocked version. This shift could allow Samsung to cut prices substantially. However, the Exynos chip’s less powerful NPU means the device may not support many advanced Galaxy AI features.
Nonetheless, the Galaxy Z Flip FE is shaping up to be a compelling choice for users looking for a more affordable foldable phone. While Samsung has yet to officially confirm the device, the leaked details suggest it could offer a premium experience at a lower price point. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to an official announcement in July or August.
