Samsung has released the February 2025 security update for its flagship Galaxy Tab S9 series. These are the first Galaxy tablets to receive the latest security patch, which addresses over 40 vulnerabilities. The update is now available for download in select markets and will gradually expand to more regions. Samsung has already updated many other devices.

Galaxy Tab S9 series grabs Samsung’s February update

The February 2025 security patch addresses one critical Android OS vulnerability and dozens more high-severity flaws across Android and One UI. These vulnerabilities could potentially compromise the security of your Galaxy device. Installing the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) ensures safety against these security flaws.

Samsung has been rolling out this update to eligible Galaxy phones since early this month. It has already pushed the new SMR to dozens of phones, including all Galaxy S flagships and Galaxy Z Foldables launched in 2022 and later. The company has also updated a few mid-range models. The Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra join the party today.

The 2023 flagship tablets are currently receiving the latest SMR in Europe. The new firmware version for the devices is BYA5 (the last four digits of the build number). The official changelog confirms that the update is all about this month’s security fixes. “The device is protected with improved security,” the changelog states. There are no new features and enhancements.

Samsung will roll out tons of new features and functional upgrades to the Galaxy Tab S9 series with the One UI 7.0 update later this year — the rollout may begin in April or May. Meanwhile, you should install the latest security patch to prepare yourself for the big update. If the update is not yet available, don’t worry. Samsung typically rolls out updates in phases, so it may take a few days before it reaches all regions.
